Dr. Iain Moyer :: Academia Bio


 

Dr. Iain Moyer is the Director of Athletic Bands and Music Programs Recruiter at Widener University. As Director of Athletic Bands, he oversees all aspects of the Widener University Pep Band and Drumline, which performs at home football and basketball games, along with other university events. In his role as Music Programs Recruiter, he is responsible for recruiting high school students with a music background into Widener’s academic majors and placing them in one of the many Widener music ensembles.

Previous to Moyer’s appointment at Widener, Dr. Moyer was the Assistant Director of Bands/Director of Percussion Studies at the University of North Alabama from 2004-2014. During his time at UNA, the “Pride of Dixie” Marching Band was invited to perform in exhibition at the Bands of America Grand National Marching Band Championship, and the UNA Drumline won the 2013 PASIC Drumline Battle at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, IN.

Moyer’s concert percussion ensembles were featured performers at numerous Alabama Days of Percussion and other regional festivals. Additionally, Dr. Moyer’s applied studio was responsible for a large number of student and studio recitals. In 2014, Dr. Moyer was one of four clinicians selected to adjudicate the Music for All National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis, IN.

Moyer received his Doctorate of Musical Arts as an OU Alumni Fellow and his Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Oklahoma. His dissertation, “An Analysis of Three Percussion Ensemble Arrangements” is published by UMI. He received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. His past teachers include Richard Gipson, Thom Hannum, Eduardo Leandro, Lance Drege, William Wakefield, and Peter Tanner.
